Failover Clusters - Configuring Failover Clusters

Cluster Name

Use the agent configuration parameter, clusterName to configure a cluster's name. Agent v6.5 and higher has this configuration parameter. This configuration parameter can also be used as environment variable DD_CLUSTER_NAME. Make sure you have the correct cluster names for your cluster. Agents will fail over automatically if one fails once you have specified the name of your cluster.

How to create a failover cluster

To create a failover cluster, you must first understand each component and their relationship to one another. Cluster tree objects can be used to navigate through each component of the cluster. Clicking an item will open its context menu. The context menu will then display all of the operations.

First, create a Failover Manager. After you have created a cluster you will need to assign each server an role. After you've chosen a role that you want for a cluster member you can now create virtual machines. To add a disk to the cluster, type Get-ClusterAvailableDisk.

Failover Cluster Manager allows you to create clusters for all of your servers. You will need to select which cluster nodes to connect to. This step can be skipped if you choose the "validated Nodes" option. The next step is to create the name of your cluster, and then configure the IP addresses of other members. Before you enable failover clusters, validate your cluster configuration.

When the cluster validation has been completed, click Finish. You will see a confirmation screen that lists the nodes chosen and the test results. You can also choose to view a report with all the results. Once you have set up your cluster, you need to determine the access point from which you will manage it. This access point must be in the same IP range as your cluster nodes.

Failover Manager will display an overview of your cluster's creation. You can also view detailed information about disk selection and failover cluster configuration. Windows Server 2019 or a later version of the operating systems, ensure that you have the latest Microsoft updates installed on your Windows Server 2019 cluster nodes.

Once you've installed failover cluster software, and configured the management Interface, you can use failover cluster management to monitor it's health and adjust failback settings. You can also use the failback feature to simulate a hardware failure and ensure that all services are not interrupted. The workload will be taken over by the remaining nodes if one of the nodes fails. This will ensure that your users still have access to the file server.

Failover Cluster Manager can either be launched from the Server Manager dashboard (or from the Tools menu). Failover cluster validation wizard will validate the servers within the cluster. Then, launch Failover Manager. Next, you must configure Active Directory, shared storage and DNS entries for virtual server names in the cluster.

Parallels Virtuozzo containers will be installed for the first time. You will need to upgrade the software that controls them. Install the vzup2date utility to do this. To make a failover cluster out of Parallels servers, you need a shared SCSI storage device. Ensure the storage device has a /vz partition formatted as ext3. Make sure all failover cluster servers are running the latest Parallels Virtuozzo Containers software.
